Gauge Fields

4. Gauge Fields: Photons “Ride” the TensionYour idea:

“Photons are heavy in disguise” → but actually zero mass because they don’t drop ( T )

So gauge fields couple to gradients of ( T ), not ( T ) itself.Modified gauge kinetic term:

\mathcal{L}_{\text{gauge}} = - \frac{1}{4} g(T) F_{\mu\nu} F^{\mu\nu}

where

\boxed{g(T) = g_0 \left(1 - \frac{T}{T_{\text{max}}}\right)}→ When

T \to T_{\text{max}}

g(T) \to 0 → photons decouple (infinite wavelength, frozen)
→ When

T \ll T_{\text{max}}

g(T) \approx g_0 → standard QEDThis is conformal coupling suppression.
